English Diary: Week 1 - July 7th 2014

Hello and welcome to the first of my weekly diary entries that I will be posting throughout the duration of this year's English A2 lessons. This diary has been made to keep whoever is interested updated with my recent work, progress and any changes that may have been made.

I thought that with this diary entry, I would introduce my coursework task and give you an insight into what exactly it is that i'll be doing for it.

As a class, we have been set the task of making a language investigation, in which we analyse the ways in which language is used across the world. Last year's work and exams offered us a range of different ways that language can be used and/or changed, as well as situations in which this can occur.

My area of study is going to be the ways in which different genders speak about a subject that is affiliated more with one than the other. In this case, I will be transcribing both a male and female commentator before comparing the amount of topic specific lexis they use, as well as their tones of voice and confidence when speaking, in an attempt to see whether or not male commentators find it easier to talk about sport than female.

I will be watching plenty of FIFA World Cup games over the next few weeks, so I felt that my investigation has been timed brilliantly because it offers me enough time to watch matches, transcribe games and then write up an answer to my question.

Unfortunately, that is all I can say for this week's entry, but the following ones will have more information in them.

Thanks!
