This is my second diary entry that is based on my English language coursework.
Sorry that this week's update has been posted later than originally expected.
Having had a meeting with one of my English teachers last week, I have covered everything that she had doubts in. According to my teacher, my investigation subject was not sustainable enough, and because of an already high amount of people who wanted to do the investigation, I had no choice but to abort it.
Fortunately, my original topic - "The differences between male and female football commentary", is strongly linked with journalism. Journalism offers a wide range of different areas and job titles. One of these job titles, is reporting. Despite being a widely spread area of study, football commentary (In terms of both genders) is actually fairly difficult to work with, because of the lack of dedicated female football commentators. I havent actually experienced a female football commentator in a men's tournament. There has been the odd occassion in which I have watched the female Premier League. There are obviously female commentators for these games, but in men's tournaments - they appear to be few and far between.
This is why I have taken my teacher's advice in terms of what investigation I have chosen to do. Transcribing an interview from the Barclays Premier League that has been done by BBC sport's Match of the Day is probably my best bet. Match of the Day have a female reporter that works for them - Gabby Logan. Gabby Logan has been working with the BBC's sport production team for over 5 years now and is a well established member of the team. She has hosted plenty of interviews with world famous footballers on their performances in the league.
As well as Gabby Logan, the BBC have a dedicated team of male reporters too. Geoff Shreeves is just one of many men who are part of the reporting team from the BBC.
Because I have two differnt reporters from both genders, it means that my investigation will be easier to conduct, because I will have information from two reliable sources.
Match of the Day is easily accessible for me as well. When I originally planned to do my investigation on the FIFA World Cup, I didn't realise that it was going to be difficult. Because of the time difference between England and Brazil, it meant that a lot of the games were on at 9pm or later. In all honesty, after a long day at school, I just wanted to relax. Once the day got passed 8pm, I felt too tired to do anything and make any progress with my investigation.
The Premier League makes a return in August. I will be able to watch Match of the Day without being tired or lack of motivation. Meaning that my investigation will be able to be worked on without trouble.
